Italian Galaxy Warriors

The Italian release of Galaxy Warriors. In Italy, Tiger Man (below) was called Nofret. Cool, huh?

The cardback shows other figures available in Italy, all with new names except for Anubi. Interestingly, Deevil (now called Horep) was part of the Italian line. He was only released in the USA on the later Galaxy Warrior cardbacks with the title "Swords  & Sorcerers." [For a picture of the USA Deevil check out What are Galaxy Warriors?]

I'm not sure if Sungold "officially" approved of these Italian Galaxy Warriors and I'm not sure of there release date. From these pictures it is too hard to see if Sungold's name is on the packaging anywhere. If not, then they may be leftover stock that a company bought from Sungold and then released in Italy. Or maybe Sungold made a deal with another company to release some GW figures in Italy. Since I don't personally own one of these Italian figures or cardbacks it is hard to determine.

  1. Hi! I'm a fond KO collector from Italy and I've Sungold's Anubi italian version, bought back in the eighties. Unfortunately the original card is missing, but I can confirm the stamp on his right leg and all the accessories (on the shield there is no sticker). The cool part is that he came with a bonus head (the Tiger Man one). The color of the body and the head are the same (no pale/darker head). Best-

    1. Thanks for the information. That's really interesting that your Anubi came with a 2nd head. I'd love to find a picture of a packaged figure with a bonus head. Also, cool Anubi pic on your flickr account.

  3. Hi, thought I'd chime in here. I've seen the Italian Horep (Deevil) on Ebay a while back. It was interesting to note that he had the black body of GW Spikes. I would be interested in knowing if there were other colour variations on the other characters.

    1. Thanks for sharing this info. I bet a black-bodied Deevil looks super cool. There were some different colored variations when the line was re-released under the name Freedom Fighters, such as a black-bodied Ygg and a completely green Anubi. A picture of them can be found on may post about the Freedom Fighters: http://galaxywarriorsbysungold.blogspot.com/2013/04/baltard-freedom-fighter.html
